Character Background: Kanami originated in the Mainland, but was found abandoned by Kazuma when she was very young. Kazuma would have left her, but since he had a soft spot, seen when he gave his money away to those who needed it. Therefore, he took her along and she started to live with him, under his care. She did her best to work. They were poor and barely getting by. It didn’t help when Kazuma gave his money even after doing all the work to other people. In the beginning, she usually found working at the local farm in the village she stayed at. Her character arc starts when Eelian broadcasted the battle between Kazuma and Ryuhou. That’s when she found out that Kazuma is really a Native Alter and his money resource came from odd jobs that involved using his alter to settle things.

At first, she didn’t know what to think about it. The odd dreams that she got in the past of a man constantly struggling to get by through fights, it’s then when it started to click in her mind that that man could possibly be Kazuma. Even though that was when she first realized it, she doesn’t start to believe it until later on. In Kazuma’s absence, that’s not surprising, the village that Kanami and Kimishimi resided in was taken over by HOLD. Things seemed hopeless and Kanami was still phased by Kazuma being a Native Alter. To be completely honest, she was also a bit afraid of him for a few moments. When the time came where there was a chance to escape, Kimishima took it. He was going to go find Kazuma and asked if Kanami was going to come along. At first, she was thinking of not coming because of fear, but finally said that she didn’t care if he was a Native Alter. The thing she wanted to most was the chance to see Kazuma again.

With that, they left in pursuit. Kimishima continued to ask her if she was really okay with it. She would be targeted as well as Kimishima and Kazuma as a criminal. She continued to say it was alright with her. When they got to a safe distance, Kimishima dropped her off and told Kanami to stay inside. She wanted to go with him, but he insisted that he’d bring Kazuma back for her. She had to wait a while until he saw a few shapes in the distance. It was Kazuma holding Kimishima. When she saw Kazuma with Kimishima, she became very happy. She was extremely relieved that they were okay, but when Kimishima didn’t seem to move or speak, she became worried. She had somehow came to the conclusion that he passed away. Kazuma noticed her become sad and tried his best to get Kimishima to move or speak, saying things like, “Come on. This isn’t funny. Say something”. Kanami didn’t buy it and began to cry. It was probably the first time in a long time that she had cried.

Kazuma had taken this hard too, going slightly crazy. He went back, only to steal back one of the many cars that were taken or destroyed, most the time because of Kazuma or HOLY. Before settling some unfinished business, and after a few days, he had Kimishima in the driver’s seat and was talking to him as if her were living. He said something about since he got his car back for him, he would need payment, taking a gun that Kimishima used/carried along with him. Kazuma and Ryuhou got into yet another fight and during which, their alters combined at full power had caused an earthquake that was rated 8.5 on the rictorscale. Both Kazuma and Ryuhou had disappeared in the events of this uprising. For 8 months straight, Kanami was unable to have dreams of Kazuma unlike how she would have them every night.

There was a point when Kanami’s newer village she resided in was enslaved by some Native Alter users. Ryuhou showed up for the first time in a long time, but he had lost his memories, only knowing his name. He was also enslaved by the Native Alter user lackeys and put into the same village as Kanami to work. The work was very difficult and Kanami had difficulty trying to go on, as well as many of the other villagers. When an elder woman was being beaten for resting, Kanami went to try to help the woman. As brave as Kanami was, the men threatened to harm them and was about to, but was stopped. Ryuhou had stepped in and protected the woman and Kanami. When the men threatened Ryuhou a much worse punishment, he declared that they were the evil ones.

With that, he rid the village of the Native Alter users and saved the village. Since then, it was very calm and things were a lot better. The villagers had been so thankful for him that they asked him if he could stay. He just smiled and said that he would if they would accept him. In that time, Kanami and Ryuhou had become pretty close and she even admitted to reminding him of Kazuma. It wasn’t the way he talked or the way he acted, but it was the reasons why Ryuhou did the things that he did that reminded her of Kazuma. Even though Kazuma appeared to be cruel and reckless, he did it for the better reasons, almost noble.

It wasn’t long after when Scheris made her entrance. She found Ryuhou and became very happy to see him. Instead, Ryuhou just looked at her like he didn’t know who she was. He wasn’t so welcoming towards her. He insisted that he was keeping the village safe and he would fight anyone who disturbed that piece. When she tried to get him to return to HOLY, he declined. She leaves dissatisfied, but doesn’t push it anymore. Though, HOLY was not happy. They deal with Scheris because she didn’t deal with it. When Scheris didn’t work, they used different means. Unkai used his alter to rewrite his lost memories. However, Kanami finds Ryuhou and broke him out of the alter. In those events, he regained his lost memories and started to dispise HOLY. Their means of getting him to return weren’t favorable. Because of Kanami’s involvement with Ryuhou, they took her to take care of it. Ryuhou went to save Kanami.

At one point, Scheris came back to Ryuhou, but the two of them are told to leave, learning who Ryuhou really is. After saving Kanami, he left, but not far. He still watched over the village. Scheris decided to leave HOLY and stay with Ryuhou to help him watch over the village. Suddenly, the see a light like what happened when Ryuhou and Kazuma got into the fight. Kanami figured that was Kazuma and immediately went to look for him. Ryuhou, however, insisted that she shouldn’t go on her own, but at the same time he wanted to protect the village, too. Scheris told him to go ahead and that she’d watch over the village for him. He left with Kanami to make sure she wasn’t alone. During the time traveling, they ran into Tachibana and Mimori along the way and decided to travel with. They, too, were searching for Kazuma.

At some point, they see something strange going on with the village. Ryuhou insisted that they went back to save the village from whatever may have happened. When they arrived, they noticed the village was put under a sleeping medicine from the mainland. They end up having to fight and Ryuhou protects them. Kanami, the pacifist that she is, tried to get them to stop fighting. That’s when they noticed someone new come. Kazuma. They had their reunion and everything and then they had some fighting between Kazuma and Ryuhou, of course. It wasn’t long till Biff showed up once again and kidnapped Kanami. Even though Kazuma and Ryuhou did their best to try to save her, he got away with Kanami.

Kanami is a very caring girl and loves to help others, no matter how bad they may seem. At times like these, she is very brave. She stood up for a woman who was being beaten up after their village became enslaved. Despite how dangerous the men were, she stood up for the woman and tried to get them to stop hurting her. The lack of money has caused her to become hard working and very determined to make things better. For an 8 year old, she is very strong. Not just physically, thanks to the farm work, but also emotionally. She’ll often endure the hardest things with a smile on her face, insisting that everything is okay. Though, she is still just a little girl and has her moments of doubt. She is also very close to Kazuma, seen like a little sister to Kazuma. Though, she harbors some feelings of love for Kazuma over just sibling love. She loves to refer to him as “Kazu-kun”, even though he kept on telling her that he didn’t like that nickname. He warmed up to it later on, though. She tends to speak in formal terms. Though, everyone has their moments. She gets mad about Kazuma running off to do some odd jobs that Kimishima supplied.

This is especially true when Kazuma promises to help her on the farm and runs of anyways. Cause’, let’s face it. Kazuma hates farm work and only does it when Kanami asks him to. Even though she has no idea what kind of jobs that Kazuma does, she never questions it. Money is money, no matter where he got it or how little it is. She’s used to him being gone for long period of time. She was also close to Kimishima and thought of him as a good friend and almost as family. Because of the odd jobs, he also seemed to disappear. Kanami, since she never questioned it, along with the other villagers never knew it was to go after HOLY or Native Alters causing trouble.

The person responsible was Kyouji Mujou, who also controls Biff at the moment. They go to save Kanami. It’s clear that Kanami and Ryuhou had become close friends. When Kazuma and Ryuhou go save Kanami from Mujou, they were arguing about who was Kanami’s closer friend. Ryuhou mentioned that she calls him by his name and has cooked for him. Meanwhile, when this was going on, Kanami’s powers were being selfishly used by Mujou for more power for himself. After much difficulty, they found themselves beaten up after the battles and Ryuhou had to face the alter that killed his mother. In that battle he was killed, but Scheris saved his life by sacrificing her own with her alter, Eternal Devote. With that, Kazuma had managed to finish off Mujou and Ryuhou beat the alter, as well as the HOLY commander. Couger had saved Kanami and two other kids and returned back to the village as the others who were there escaped. After a few days of peace, with no one to hold them back now, Ryuhou and Kazuma finished their battle. Mimori and Kanami were watching their fight.

Abilites/Special Powers: Kanami has an alter ability, even if she doesn’t know she has it. She has the ability for telepathy and empathy. In her dreams, she is able to see what is happening to Kazuma, though she doesn’t know who the man is when she is dreaming about it. In her alter dreams, she becomes the person, feeling the pain that the man does in the dreams. She can also read other people’s thoughts and emotions. When she holds onto certain things, she can feel theirs as well. Such as the necklace given to Mimori by Ryuhou, she is able to feel and read his thoughts when holding it. It is later discovered that she has this power and has full knowledge of it. Though, in the earlier stages, she could only use this alter when sleeping. When she became more aware of her abilities and how to understand it, she was able to use her alter in both day dreaming and actual sleeping.

Kanami saw as HOLD seemed to surround them. She looked around, hoping to find some way to get free from their grasp, but there was none. She looked up to Kimishima, feeling kind of scared, but she was sure to make her face show nothing by worry. She didn’t want to show how she was feeling slightly scared. She wanted to be brave and stay strong. Still, the worry going through her mind didn’t stop it from showing on her face clearly. Kimishima seemed to look down to her, patting her head. He reassured her that everything would be okay. He didn’t have to speak to show it. His expression just screamed it. She then sighed, closing her eyes for a moment before nodding.

She had to stay strong. She looked back, seeing the giant screen. She didn’t realize what was going on, but the other villagers that she had grown so attached to seemed to talk amongst themselves. She looked to the screen, examining it more carefully. She saw as a feed went on; displaying what looked like to be a battle. A few questions ran in her mind. First of all, how was it showing? It must have been live. The lost grounds didn’t have any technology like that. They were relatively poor. Second, why did they have to show a battle? What did it matter to them?

Now, being the pacifist she was, she disliked the idea of fighting, but something about the two competing really caught her attention. Her eyes widened as she watched it. She didn’t want to watch any longer, but it seemed like her eyes were glued to the screen. What she saw was not just any average fight. There were two people fighting. One of them wore the same HOLD uniform as the ones that had taken their village captive. The other, however, was none other then the person she missed the most. It was Kazuma. There was no doubt in her mind. She stared at it in horror as she noticed his arm. It was… different… They both had strange powers they were using. That, as she was told by Kimishima when he noticed her vacant stare, was called an alter.

Alters… They were alter users! Kanami started to shake her head frantically. No, there was no way! Kazuma couldn’t have been a Native Alter. He couldn’t have…could he!? She didn’t want to believe it, but the proof was right there. As much as she hated to admit it, she felt, well… frightened. She felt as a cold shiver ran down her spine. She managed to close her eyes, glancing away as she clung onto Kimishima’s leg. She was frightened. Kimishima must have noticed, because he hugged her, trying to comfort her. He then left off somewhere. She didn’t catch where, but it didn’t take long for Kimishima to come back in a hurry in one of his cars.

He told her to get in fast. She didn’t know what to think, but her body seemed to move on it’s own as she got in and they took off. It was a while till they were safe again, but he was going to go on. She didn’t want him to leave. Not without her. As frightened as she was, she wanted to come with Kimishima. She really wanted to see Kazuma. That fear she had gotten from the shock, it was drowned away with the other emotions she felt. She suddenly felt herself not caring what he was. All she knew was even if this was the real Kazuma, she didn’t want anything more then to be with him right now.

Kimishima just smiled to her and stated that she should stay there. She was safe inside and he had promised her that he would bring him back to her. She didn’t really buy this too well, but she agreed. She didn’t want to cause too much trouble for him. So she waited… and waited… and waited. Finally, she found herself waking up, rubbing her eyes. It’s been about a day now, and he was still gone. She began to feel kind of hopeless. When she noticed a few figures in the distance, she immediately got up and went to see. It was Kazuma carrying Kimishima. She felt herself burst with joy. They looked beat up and bruised, but they were safe, none the less.

She nearly cried from happiness and relief, but when she noticed Kimishima didn’t seem to move or speak, she began to get worried again. She looked at him for a while, only seeing that he looked like he was sleeping. No… not sleeping… he looked… That’s when the tears came from her eyes. He looked dead. She began to shake uncontrollably. He couldn’t be dead! He was fine when he left for Kazuma. She covered her eyes with the palms of her hands. She couldn’t believe it. So much was happening for the eight year old to take in. Kazuma tried to get Kimishima to move or speak, but it was no use. Kanami knew his fate already. Kimishima had passed away.
